California's Silicon Valley could soon be home to the world's largest rooftop garden.
Infamous
'Walkie Scorchie' skyscraper architect Rafael Viñoly is working alongside OLIN Landscape Architects to transform the ageing Vallco Shopping Mall in Cupertino into a modern mixed-use development with a 12 hectare rooftop garden.
If approved, the Hills at Vallco's massive rooftop garden would be the centrepiece of the development and would offer 6.1km of walking trails, organic gardens, meadows, vineyards, orchards, an amphitheatre, playgrounds and native plantings for native birds and plants.
The Hills at Vallco would use recycled water for irrigation, heating, and cooling. Rainwater would be collected to reduce water consumption.
